INDONESIAN RAILWAY MUSEUM AMBARAWA : Home of Aged Steam Locomotives

From Semarang, we traveled for about an hour, to visit Ambarawa. Ambarawa is a small city that is located around 50 km from city center of Semarang. One of the places that we visited on that day, was Museum Kereta Api Indonesia, Ambarawa. Originally, this museum was a railway station, that has been used during the colonial regime. Not only, showing the collection of old trains, this museum still also preserves its old station building and adds some other prototype stations. There are many spots for you to take some photos! We spent almost 2 hours to walk around the museum.

You can also try their unique steam locomotive, that only runs for weekend and national holidays. The first train route is from Ambarawa-Tuntang (distance 7 km). Paying for only 60.000 IDR and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Rawa Pening Lake.  The secound route is Ambarawa - Bedono (distance 35 km). The trip will run for 1 hour. Unfortunately when I visited back then, the train was not operating because it was weekday. The train will departs on 11.00 AM and 02.00 PM. So please make sure with your schedule !

Opening hour : 08.00 AM - 05.00 PM
