SPIEGEL BAR & BISTRO : Western Atmosphere Bar
"You should go to Spiegel." said Mr. Didi, my boss, to me. So on the first night in Semarang, I asked my driver to take me to this place, Spiegel Bar & Bistro. It is located in the Kota Lama area, a preserved area of the city that famous by its old buildings. It is a 'hoek' building, the main facade become the entrance with the "Spiegel" writing on the wall.
The collonial style was come from Spain. This cafe opened in 1895, so it has been around 120 years. There was a company named Winkel Maatschappij "H Spiegel" who sold household needs and some office stationeries in the past. In 2015, this heritage building was renovated and now is used as a cafe and coworking space. The renovation still kept the same theme of the old one.
I visited this place at night on workday. So there were not much visitor, you can chit chat with your friends or maybe work with your notebook. The vibe was so calm and romantic. The lighting creates a warm feeling.

On the second floor, there is a co-working space that you can rent hourly or daily. Maybe if you are planning to make a seminar or event for 20-30 person in Semarang, this place could be your choice. The vintage ambience will fit with a creative event. Thus, for the adding value, there is rooftop that has been designed nicely.
